21: Social Responsibility

“Social Responsibility”

Social responsibility

How we’re “supposed” to be.

Some sort of fallacy.

O say can you see.

“Choose” what you’re gonna be.

Pay taxes on taxes, every fee.

Sire away all your money.

O say can you see.

O say can I see?

How the world looks to me?

Only me, that’s how it will be.

Oh say, I can’t see.

It’s dawn’s early light,

But I still want to fight.

Must keep my money tight.

By God, that’s my right…

All this proud hailing,

Leave many families wailing,

While saying crime is “curtailing,”

and most the kids at school are failing.

Now it’s twilight gleaming,

My heart and brain are steaming,

By what the news keeps streaming.

Another young soul leaving.

Broad stripes and bright stars,

Sending many people far.

Leaving us to cope in bars.

Losing home, sleep in cars.

Oh what a perilous fight!

Humans beings being treated right!

Many left out of sight,

Grasping on that hope so tight.

Some watching ramparts stream,

Others stuck in online dream.

Forcing folks to pick a team,

Only right opinions to fit the seam.

The red glare of the rockets,

Stealing electricity from building sockets.

Leaving people of empty pocket,

Family members, only left in lockets.

Bombs bursting in the air.

No warning, no beware,

Do they even care?

All these systems, so unfair.

This song is supposed proof?

Feels like a failed spoof.

Like somebody is up there playing a goof.

Often too hard for me to accept the truth.

Our flag is still there,

Stars and stripes of imperial flare.

Speak ill of, I’d never dare…

This is America, I do declare.
