Religion and Rites
I refuse to ackowledge
a blessing,
bestowed upon me,
by someone
who when dining,
wouldn’t share their
dry bread and wine.
The control this idea
engages in
is neglectful to
the teachings of
the same God,
they claim,
to follow.
No man, no building,
memorized phrase or song
Brings me nearer
to the most high,
according to their holy scripture.
It is commanded that they:
love thy neighbor
as thyself.
Seems like they must hate themselves,
from where I stand.
Yet I’m still here.
And I am hungry.
But they won’t share.
I have not the Rite.
Why can’t they share,
when their God,
can multiply it all,
without issue?
It makes no sense,
but feels like control.
But I won’t follow them,
or I’ll be in hell.
All the while,
the men refusing
to live as he calls us
are building
their own Heaven
on our Earth.
